Current Position:
Administrative Assistant to the Department Head. Responsible for the general management of department office and personnel coordinator for the department.
Major responsibilities include:
- Serve as the Department’s human resource representative. Implement, disseminate and train employees on policies and procedures.
- Administer all aspects of personnel administration as well as management of all office activities. Interview, hire, and evaluate assigned staff. Participate in staff position reviews; act as liaison to resolve employee relations issues.
- Prepare, process and approve personnel actions. Ensure compliance, maintain documentation, and submit annual reports.
- Oversee all human resources functions. Administer faculty affairs documents (promotion and tenure/post-tenure reviews/sabbatical leave requests/faculty activity reports). Maintain knowledge of University Affirmative Action policies, procedures and reporting requirements.
- Coordinate and Oversee the preparation, processing and approval of visa documents. Ensure compliance; maintain documentation.
- Oversee the maintenance of budgets. Approve financial transactions. Resolve problems.
- Provide input and advice to the department head and key members of his/her staff on the development and implementation of strategic initiatives for the total organization. Represent the department in various meetings and/or committees involving other administrative/academic units.
- Compile and analyze data for incorporation into a variety of reports or correspondence for internal/external distribution. Monitor production of same.
- Draft correspondence for department head and faculty. Edit drafts of correspondence requiring the department head’s signature. Contact and maintain liaison with various outside departments and/or businesses.
- Manage assigned projects. Develop plans of work; oversee project phases to ensure effective and efficient workflow.
- Determine office equipment and space needs. Develop and maintain office management procedures. Interface with University information systems personnel.
- Meet with sales representatives. Purchase and/or recommend equipment purchases.
