[Updated June 2009]

A postdoctoral position is available to determine the structures of chromatin enzymes and factors on their own or in complex with nucleosomes. Crystals are available for several projects, while crystallization conditions need to be determined or optimized for others.

The Tan laboratory is fully equipped for biochemical, crystallization and crystallography work. Our efforts are also enhanced by techniques to reconstitute multicomponent complexes (Nature Struct. Biol., 8:695, 2001, Prot. Expr. Purif., 40:385, 2005, MCB, 25:5535, 2005) and crystallization design ideas developed during successful structural determination of the yeast TFIIA/TBP/DNA and MATalpha2/MCM1/DNA ternary complexes (Nature, 381:127, 1996; Nature, 391:660, 1998; JMB 297:947, 2000).

The Center for Gene Regulation at Penn State University is a dynamic and highly collaborative environment which includes the groups of Drs. David Gilmour, Frank Pugh, Joe Reese, Yanming Wang and Song Tan, each with research programs targeted at understanding the molecular basis for transcriptional regulation on chromatin templates.

Crystallographers, molecular biologists and biochemists are encouraged to apply. Prior experience with macromolecular crystallography and protein expression/purification is preferred. Please send curriculum vitae and the names of three references to:
